ReWa Accounting Department Description

The Accounting Department is composed of a Controller and five professional staff members. It monitors the fiscal management of all departments and is responsible for financial statements and books of original entry.

Budgets and budget summaries for both the capital fund and the operating fund are prepared by the Accounting Department.Monthly summaries indicating budgeted amounts, actuals and budget variances are distributed to all departments and the Board of Commissioners.

The Accounting Department manages all investments in accordance with South Carolina law and resolutions of the Board of Commissioners and reports the status to the Finance Committee on a monthly basis.

All cash and cash equivalents are invested in fully insured certificates of deposit, obligations of the US Treasury, and repurchase agreements. In an effort to sustain a cash flow that supports capital projects that will maintain quality of sewer service, effluent standards, rate adequacy, ReWa’s excellent credit rating and accommodate growth, the Accounting Department manages and monitors the Agency’s long-range financial plan. Also, it is the responsibility of this Department to select the appropriate debt instruments to fund long-range capital projects.
