REEDY RIVER SWEEP
ReWa recently held its annual Reedy River Sweep for the 15th consecutive year, a volunteer event for ReWa employees to give back to the environment. Blake Visin, Director of Information Technology, was the organizer of ReWa's "Stream Team." The 1.5-mile riverfront at the intersection of I-85 and Mauldin Road runs through ReWa's Mauldin Road facility and serves as the receiving stream for the plant's effluent. The event was scheduled in conjunction with the 22nd annual state-wide South Carolina Beach Sweep/River Sweep week, which is organized by the SC Sea Grant Consortium, the SC Department of Natural Resources, and the SCANA Corporation. Last year, more than 6,000 South Carolina volunteers removed over 45 tons of aquatic debris from South Carolina's waterways. This annual clean up clears our waterways of unsightly debris, educates the public about the impact that aquatic debris has on our economy and our environment, and serves as a research tool for the Center for Marine Conservation in Washington, D.C.
