WASTEWATER TREATMENT CHARGES
As you might imagine, cleaning wastewater is both complex and expensive. Each day, approximately 40 million gallons of wastewater travel through 360 miles of the trunk sewer lines to 9 treatment plants. At these facilities, the water is cleaned as it passes through a series of biological and chemical processes. Once the recycled water meets all state and federal environmental standards, ReWa returns the water to area rivers for future use.
ReWa does not receive funds from local or state taxes. All expenditures are funded through a combination of user fees, state revolving loans, revenue debt issues and internal equity generated from system revenues. This incremental customer rate structure outlined below will help to cover ReWa's increasing financial obligations, including expanding the system's capacity to meet economic demand; rehabilitating and replacing aged sections of our current system; and continually making system improvements to meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
Our rate methodology includes a monthly base fee as well as a volume charge.
BASE FEE
This fee recovers the cost of servicing 121,000 customer accounts and
maintaining 360 miles of trunk line. This fee applies to both residential
and commercial accounts.
VOLUME CHARGES
The charge covers the cost of operations and maintenance, required capital replacements and improvements, and debt service.
